Welcome to the Journey: Meet Maylene Wilson

Hi there, and welcome! I’m Maylene Wilson, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. After 28 years of teaching American history in the classroom, I’ve shifted from chalkboards to blog posts—but my passion for exploring the past is as strong as ever.

History, to me, has never been just dates and facts. It’s about people, places, and the stories that shape who we are. I hold a Bachelor of Science in History, and I’ve studied Public History at Middle Tennessee State University. Over the years, I’ve come to believe that some of the most meaningful history isn’t just in books—it’s in the buildings we walk by, the objects we pass down, and the stories we share over coffee or around a kitchen table.

This blog is my space to reflect on the rich layers of history and culture that surround us every day. Whether it’s exploring a forgotten landmark, digging into the story behind a family heirloom, or honoring the voices of those whose stories haven’t always been told, I invite you to join me in discovering the past in ways that feel personal, tangible, and real.

So pour a cup of something warm, settle in, and let’s journey together through the stories that still live all around us.
